About the buttonshop
As London has the world renowned Button Queen and New York its own Tender Buttons, once the favorite shop of style icon Marléne Dietrich, so Amsterdam has its own button shop situated at the Herengracht 389.
Business woman Thea de Boer started her company in 1986 from a small store front in the Wolvenstraat. In 2001, after 14 years she closed up, traveled a lot, gained a lot of inspiration and opened up again in a beautiful house on one of Amsterdam's most famous canals.
Right on time because the button is back. It's being sold once more in all its forms and sizes, from classic bone to mother of pearl, from burned wood to glass and everything in between. In fashion nothing is as important as individualism in trendsetting it's all about details.
Thea says: I think people these days want to be different. They long to distinguish themselves and that's what I want to play into with my unique button collection.
Besides Buttons
Besides buttons the store also has a sizeable assortment of various accessories originating from every corner of the globe.
Claire V handmade silk purses from Cambodia, different items like belts and handmade jewelry. Fabulous scarfs by top brand Benzoe, embroideries and handbags from the hilltribes of South East Asia, antique Chinese furniture.
Obviously the buttonshop on the Herengracht 389 in Amsterdam is more than just a name on a storefront.
Everything found on the premises is for sale, from deer antlers on the wall to a menage á trois, from an Italian enamel button made in 1933 to an antique Tibetan cap and there's so much more.
Thea de Boer has succeeded into creating a truly remarkable boutique that can hold it own against the best of the world.
